Departmental Accounting Financial Information System Replacement

GCE was selected again by DOT and USCG to design and develop a comprehensive central accounting system to replace the current DAFIS core accounting system at USCG Finance Center in Chesapeake, VA.

GCE is developing the new system by customizing, enhancing and implementing the Oracle Financials COTS package. GCE is using Java, XML and Java Server Pages (JSP) to integrate the existing USCG Oracle Financials system with a group of more than 20 legacy systems. This involves receiving data files, translating legacy system data to Oracle Financials and feeding data through Oracle and custom APIs developed by GCE.

GCE developed custom data entry screens using JSP to correct and resubmit data received from the legacy systems in real-time. JSP is a powerful technology that GCE uses to create complex data entry screens containing complex field validation capability. The major system benefits are:

• Full Internet capability via a web browser e.g., MS Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
  
• Reusable interface objects that offer plug and play interface services between legacy systems and Oracle Financials.
  
• Fully integrated with Oracle 8i Oracle Financials database.
