Large Unit Financial System (LUFS) Integration

GCE was selected by DOT and USCG to provide a web solution for the department’s Large Unit Financial System (LUFS). LUFS is USCG’s enterprise-wide accounting and procurement system used daily by over 15,000 users distributed over 1000 USCG sites worldwide. Originally, LUFS was developed as a client/server system using PowerBuilder on Windows NT. Based on USCG’s need to upgrade and deploy the system to over 1000 sites, GCE is using Java, XML and Oracle to develop a web-based enterprise-wide financial system that will replace the existing client/server system. GCE continuously maintains the legacy client/server system and has successfully centralized four regional databases into one database. Currently, GCE is converting the final interfaces of LUFS to a robust web application. The major system benefits are:

  • Full Internet capability via a web browser e.g., MS Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
  • Reusable GUI components and business objects that can be combined in any combination to allow for easy plug and play integration with other systems and business services.
  • Uses Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Digital Signature technology to provide secure financials transactions.
  • Consolidates four regional databases into one centralized Oracle 8i database.
