Large Unit Financial System (LUFS) Integration

GCE was selected by DOT and USCG to provide a web solution for the department’s Large Unit Financial System (LUFS). LUFS is USCG’s enterprise-wide accounting and procurement system used daily by over 15,000 users distributed over 1000 USCG sites worldwide. Originally, LUFS was developed as a client/server system using PowerBuilder on Windows NT. Based on USCG’s need to upgrade and deploy the system to over 1000 sites, GCE is using Java, XML and Oracle to develop a web-based enterprise-wide financial system that will replace the existing client/server system. GCE continuously maintains the legacy client/server system and has successfully centralized four regional databases into one database. Currently, GCE is converting the final interfaces of LUFS to a robust web application. The major system benefits are:

Full Internet capability via a web browser e.g., MS Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
Reusable GUI components and business objects that can be combined in any combination to allow for easy plug and play integration with other systems and business services.
Uses Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Digital Signature technology to provide secure financials transactions.
Consolidates four regional databases into one centralized Oracle 8i database.
